Milford, CT Boys & Girls Club Institutes Money Matters Program

Teaches Fiscal Responsibility And Planning

Milford, CT—December 6, 2012—The Boys & Girls Club of Milford, Connecticut, introduced a new program—Money Matters—to club members. The program promotes financial responsibility and independence among club members (ages 13 to 18) through basic money management skills.

“Money Matters was designed to provide members with a solid foundation of fiscal knowledge to support current and future goals” said Jorge Santiago, President of the Board of Directors for the club. “The program is also providing an eagerness to pursue their dreams. They know they will be better prepared to make investments to achieve their goals—whether it be making a major purchase (car, home, etc.), attending college,  opening a business or their own
personal goals.”

Money Matters teaches participants how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. In addition, the program will cover concepts regarding starting small businesses and paying for college. The program is led by Jorge Santiago, President of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Milford.

“The Club members are excited about the new program and very eager to learn how they can turn their money into major investments,” said Megan Altomare, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Milford. “It is also opening their minds to the possibilities of working in the financial and business sectors. All it takes is one spark to inspire minds and dreams, and this program doing exactly that.”

The Boys & Girls Club currently runs a variety of programs integral to the growth and development of Milford’s youth, most notably:  Money Matters, Torch Club, Healthy Eating, and Image Makers Photography. Future plans include implementing a program specifically dedicated to the teens, as well as a summer program for youth ages 6-16.
