Unanimous vote for Murphy from Cheshire's delegates to state convention.
U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy of Cheshire received all 14 of the Cheshire delegate votes at the Democratic State Convention on Saturday for his U.S. Senate campaign, according to CT News Junkie. Statewide, the article notes, Murphy received 76 percent of the delegate vote compared to 24 percent for former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. Despite the 3-to-1 vote margin, the vote total for Bysiewicz was enough to force a primary in August between the two well-known politicians, the News Junkie article noted. Total vote numbers show Murphy got 1,378 of the delegate votes and Bysiewicz’s total was 444. New Haven, one of the largest delegations, gave 73 of its votes to Murphy and 10 to Bysiewicz. “I think we’d be better off as a party without…

Milford's low voter turnout mirrors results across the state.
No surprise here: Connecticut Republicans have handed Mitt Romney their support in a landslide victory in today's primary. According to the Hartford Courant, Romney has secured 67.5% of the vote for the 96% of districts reporting results as of 10:30 p.m. Those results show the other candidates received the following votes: All's Quiet on the Voting Front It's a good thing poll checkers brought books and patience with them to Harborside Middle School today because it has been pretty quiet so far on this Republican Primary day. As of about 8:30 a.m., about eight votes had been cast in the 119th district, and about the same in the 118th -- the two districts represented at the Harborside polling location. "It's like watching paint dry," says …

The current ‘war between women’ pitting Hilary Rosen against Ann Romney is deflecting attention from the true ‘war ON women’ and distracting us from the real question—Who are we voting for?
[Editor's Note: Please keep an eye out tomorrow for "Patch Back," a new feature from Lisa Bigelow that will serve as response piece to certain installments of Heather's "Patch In."] The question isn’t whether Ann Romney ever ‘worked’ a day in her whole life, but: Does her husband Mitt truly give a rat’s ass about anyone—especially women—in the 99 percent? This made-up battle between working moms and stay-at-home-moms is causing people of every gender to lose focus on more important issues—namely whether politicians are advocating stripping rights from women (like reproductive health choices) or finding ways to penalize them and hold them back (withholding equal pay) or simply having a double standard when it comes to lower- vs. higher-…

A Quinnipiac poll breaks down the U.S. Senate race and Republican presidential primary.
A Quinnipiac University poll shows Linda McMahon leads former U.S. Rep Christopher Shays by a 51-42 margin, but falters against Democrats compared to her opponent. In the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy, D-5, leads with 37 of the vote, followed by former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz with 25 percent and State Rep. William Tong with 4 percent. Polling results for possible November matchups: “Congressman Christopher Shays has narrowed the gap with Linda McMahon from 15 points to 9 points. The question is whether he can catch up by primary day, August 14,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz. “In general election matchups, Shays runs neck and neck with either Congressman …

The Milford native says "we need to focus on economic growth."
With a promise to promote ecomic growth in the state, not stifle it, Milford resident Michael S. Casey announced his candidacy for the 118th House District seat. Casey, a Republican who was elected in November to the Milford's Planning and Zoning Board, declared his candidacy for state office Saturday at the Walnut Beach Pavilion. “Connecticut is one of two states that has fewer jobs than it had 22 years ago," he said. "Simply put, we need to focus on economic growth. We can no longer afford policies that pick winners and losers; policies that try to divide us. Connecticut shouldn’t have to settle for a zero-sum game approach. When businesses, especially small businesses, are allowed to grow, everyone prospers. If we foster policies that …

In a statement, the governor’s office said the protective order is so Gov. Malloy doesn't need to respond to correspondence from Whitnum, and should not be misconstrued as a restraining order.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has reportedly filed for a protective order against fellow Democrat and US Senate hopeful Lee Whitnum, who is suing the governor for slander. According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, Whitnum, who lives in Greenwich, filed the lawsuit against Malloy in 2010, when Malloy was still mayor of Stamford. Whitnum claims Malloy damaged her reputation when he characterized comments she made during the 2008 Democratic primary between herself and now-Congressman Jim Himes about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee as anti-Semitic. In a statement, the governor’s office said the civil motion filed Monday is so Malloy doesn't need to respond to correspondence from Whitnum, and should not be misconstrued as a …

The Democrat announces his bid for the 119th District seat from the steps of Milford City Hall.
Standing on the steps of Milford City Hall before a crowd of about 50 that included family, friends and supporters, James Maroney declared that he is the best man to represent Milford in the 119th District. The Democrat played up his background on Milford's Board of Education as an asset, as well as his experience in town as he spoke from a prepared statement (attached as a PDF). Maroney is one of two Democrats vying for the party's nomination. James Patterson, a former Milford Alderman, is also hoping to occupy the seat vacated by longtime incumbent Richard Roy, who is not seeking re-election. On the other side of the aisle, Republican Pam Staneski, an Alderman from Milford's Fifth District who has served on the Board of Education, is …

The former Alderman is seeking the Democratic Party's nomination.
James Patterson is hoping to secure the Democratic Party's nomination to run for the 119th District state representative seat. Patterson, a former Milford Alderman representing District 1, says his focus will be to serve the residents of Milford and Orange in Hartford. He is not the only one to enter the race following incumbent and longtime state Rep. Richard Roy's announcement that he will not be seeking re-election this year. Pam Staneski, a Republican who has served on the city's Board of Aldermen in the Fifth District, is seeking the GOP's nomination. Roy's decision was based on the fact that the boundaries of the 119th District are expected to change this year to expand the territory into north Milford and reaching into a part of …

The Congressman says his party shouldn't let Linda McMahon buy the U.S. Senate seat.
U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy stopped in Milford and other communities in Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District Sunday to accept endorsements from mayors and state legislators for his bid for the Democratic nomination for the Senate. Murphy, currently the 5th District congressman, and former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz are vying to be the Democratic Party’s candidate to run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, who is retiring. World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon and former 4th District Congressman Christopher Shays are in a contest for the Republican nomination to run for the seat. In Milford, Murphy received the endorsement of Mayor Ben Blake, then continued to Hamden where he was endorsed by Mayor …

The Milford resident hopes to represent residents in Hartford.
With the Connecticut General Assembly's 119th District seat up for grabs, one Milford resident is ready to jump right in. Pam Staneski, a Republican who has served on the city's Board of Aldermen in the Fifth District, is seeking the GOP's nomination. She will formally announce her intentions Saturday, Jan. 7, at her Point Lookout home at 11 a.m. The seat has been held by 10-term Democrat Richard Roy, who announced last month that he will not seek re-election. Roy's decision was based on the fact that newly drawn legislative lines place his house outside of the district. While the redistricting is not yet final, Roy said at the time, “My wife and I have been discussing the possibility of not running again for many months. The results of …
