Milford Police Help Arrest Man for Computer Sex Crimes

A Milford detective posing as an underage child was instrumental in the arrest this week of a Plainville man in an undercover Internet sting operation for allegedly attempting to lure a minor child into sexual activity.

Police said today that Jeremia E. Ramsdell, of 228 West Main Street, Plainville, sent several sexually explicit photos of himself over the Internet to someone he believed was a child under age 16. The "child" was actually a detective assigned to the FBI Computer Crimes Against Children Taskforce.

Ramsdell, using the screen name alias "REDWORLF2481," asked the person he thought was a child to meet him. The exchange occurred in June 2011, police said.

On Jan. 27, a Superior Court judge in New Haven signed two search warrants and an arrest warrant connected to Ramsdell’s activities. The search warrants were executed at Ramsdell’s residence on Tuesday and he was taken into custody.

Ramsdell was charged with criminal attempt to entice a minor into sexual activity via computer and six counts of risk of injury to a minor. Bond was set at $75,000 and he was arraigned at New Haven Superior Court.

The Computer Crimes task force is located at the FBI office in New Haven. It is comprised of several FBI special agents and detectives from the Milford, New Haven, Hamden and Hartford police departments. Several officers and a detective from the Plainville Police Department assisted in this arrest.
