Nationwide Identity Thief Nabbed in Milford

Shannon Truax was arrested following an incident at Bank of America on the Boston Post Road.

Between the announcement that Baby Bertha's gravestone was being returned home and the arrest of Shannon Truax, t has had quite a week.

On May 29th, Shannon Truax allegedly entered the Bank of America and, assuming by the identity of a customer by presenting a stolen driver’s license, attempted to withdraw $7,000 from the customer’s account.

The Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force had warned banks about Shannon Truax, 41, a Florida resident and employees at the Bank of America recognized her immediately.

Truax fled the bank in a vehicle but was located by an Officer on Old Gate Lane. Milford Police recovered several drivers’ licenses and other items believed to be related to similar incidents.  

Truax was charged with 6th degree Larceny, Criminal Impersonation, 3rd degree Criminal Attempt to Commit Larceny and was held on a $50,000 bond.

Discussing Truax's criminal operation, said, "She was definitely working with other people." Office Nielsen also said that "several financial institutions" were being targeted. 

Truax's operation went as far west as California and Washington State, and as far south as Florida, as well as the tristate area, Office Nielsen said.

"A lot of people leave forms of ID in their car," Office Nielsen said, discussing the ways that Truax got a hold of people's identification.

Milford Police Investigators are working with other law enforcement agencies in Connecticut and nationally regarding Truax’s alleged involvement in similar incidents.

The Secret Service also holds an outstanding warrant for Truax regarding an ongoing investigation by their agency.
