UPDATE: Maroney Defeats Staneski in Close Race

The race for exiting Representative Richard Roy's seat will be decided on Tuesday, November 6th.

Update at 9:31 p.m.:

In the closest race in Milford, James Maroney has won the 119th District State Rep position with 5,601 votes to Staneski's 5,109. Maroney got 52.3% to Staneski's 47.7%. This is not including absentee ballots or Orange numbers.

Pam Staneski, a Republican, is running against Democrat James Maroney to represent the 119th District in Hartford.

Pam Staneski served in Milford's 5th District on the Board of Education from 2001-2009 and on the Board of Aldermen from 2009-2011. She is the Co-Founder and past President of the Milford Prevention Council.

In an interview with Milford Patch earlier this year, Staneski talked about education, saying:

I've said from the beginning that when our children walk across those ball fields to get their degree, that degree ought to mean something. 

James Maroney is serving his first term on the Milford Board of Education, where he also serves as the Majority Leader. A graduate of Yale University, Maroney is an educational consultant and owner of First Choice College Placement in Milford.

Speaking to the Milford Patch about education, Maroney said:

I think there has been a shift from being reactive to being proactive. Instead of remedial, going more to the coaching model.
