Milford Oyster Festival Announces 2011 Charitable Contributions

  • February 5, 2012

The Annual Milford Oyster Festival committee, along with representatives from the 2011 recipients, gathered at the Milford Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 26, for the presentation of the 2011 charitable contributions.

The 2011 recipients include:

“The Oyster Festival committee is dedicated to supporting these and the other 70+ important civic and non-profit organizations that participate at the Festival each year,” stated Jay Pinto, President of the 2012 Festival.

“Each of these groups relies on the support of the community and, as the largest tourist event in Milford; the Festival provides an effective forum for highlighting their programs and services in order to expand their reach. In our own small way, we all can support these organizations and I encourage the community to do so.”

The 38th Annual Milford Oyster Festival will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, August 18 2012, 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. Oyster Eve, in conjunction with the Downtown Milford Business Association, will be held Friday, August 17th from 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

I have only one objection to the charitable work that the Oysterfest Committee performs. That is the sale of beer and price fixing of other food and drinks.
The amount raised by the committee is based on trampleing on all the other non-profits who have raised so much less for their charities.
I object to price fixing of beverages when across the street the Methodist Church undercuts our minimum price. I want a level playing field.

Since $6000 is nothing to you, Michael, I'll gladly take some cash from you. I could really use it and $6000 is a lot to me (about a third of my annual income).
I don't understand why you would put down any charitable giving because the amount isn't as high as you think it should be. At least Mr. Goldwyn has some valid points to make. Most people in this city would rather have the Oyster Festival than not have it. Maybe that could be a poll question.
